AES: President Assimi Goïta receives an AES delegation to strengthen sovereignty and regional unity

The President of the Transition, His Excellency General of the Army Assimi Goïta, held a meeting on Monday, February 24, 2025, with a ministerial delegation from the Sahel States Confederation (AES). The purpose of this meeting was to present a detailed report on the recent meetings held in Bamako and to unveil the new emblem of the Confederation.
At the end of the meeting, the spokesperson for the delegation, Brigadier General Célestin Simporé, Minister of Defense and Veterans of Burkina Faso, praised the dedication of the Defense and Security Forces of the AES member countries. He highlighted their tireless commitment to restoring peace, ensuring security, and guaranteeing the independence and sovereignty of the three states.
This visit is part of the ongoing work of the ministerial delegations and experts who met during the Bamako conference the previous week. The experts worked for more than five days, while the ministers focused their discussions over a 72-hour period. These exchanges are part of the preparations for future negotiations that AES plans to hold with ECOWAS regarding its withdrawal from this organization.
“The discussions were fruitful, and we reached positive conclusions that we came to share with President Goïta this morning,” stated the Burkinabe minister. He added that he had received clear directives from the head of the Confederation, emphasizing the need to accelerate the process and adopt a pragmatic approach to consolidate and structure the AES space. The goal is to ensure real independence and sovereignty for the peoples of the region.
During this meeting, the new AES flag was also unveiled. “A magnificent emblem, which will be brought to the attention of all AES citizens and celebrated as it should be,” he said. In the coming days, AES ministers will meet in committee with ECOWAS representatives to begin negotiations and reach resolutions that benefit all the peoples involved, the spokesperson concluded.
