DRC: Towards the creation of a Special Court to punish economic crimes and corruption

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is reaching a decisive milestone in its fight against corruption and economic crimes. The committee for the reform of the judicial architecture, in collaboration with legislators and constitutional law experts, is working on the establishment of a special financial court to try perpetrators of economic and financial misconduct.
In the face of endemic corruption and large-scale embezzlement of public funds, the Congolese government aims to strengthen its judicial framework to ensure transparent and accountable governance. This future court will be tasked with rigorously and swiftly prosecuting economic offenses, financial crimes, and embezzlement of public funds, which are major obstacles to the country’s development.
This initiative is part of a broader dynamic of institutional reforms aimed at improving the management of national resources and restoring citizens’ trust in the judicial system.
It also reflects the determination of the Congolese authorities to adopt a firmer approach against impunity, which has long allowed illicit enrichment at the expense of collective well-being.
