As part of the fight against terrorism, President Faure Gnassingbé and his government have implemented various initiatives to ensure the safety of the population and the integrity of the country. One of the key measures remains the state of security emergency in effect in the Savanes region for the past three years. Aware of the ongoing threats, the government submitted a new request for an extension to the lawmakers, who adopted it on March 6, 2025. This fourth extension, for a duration of 12 months starting from March 13, aims to adapt the response to the evolving terrorist threat.

This extension demonstrates the Togolese authorities’ commitment to strengthening security measures and continuing the actions taken to protect the population and critical infrastructure. It will not only intensify surveillance operations and the neutralization of armed groups but also strengthen efforts in intelligence gathering and cooperation with local forces. This decision also highlights the government’s commitment to preserving public order and national stability in the face of growing security challenges in the region.

The plenary session was attended by several government members, including the ministers responsible for territorial administration, security, and relations with the institutions of the Republic. Their participation underscores the importance given to this crucial issue for the country’s sovereignty. This new extension further strengthens Togo’s defensive stance in the fight against terrorism while reflecting a pragmatic approach to ensuring the safety of citizens and protecting national territory.
