Burkina Faso/Health: The need for the authorities to keep young people vigorous, healthy and able-bodied

Burkina Faso has embarked on an irreversible path toward its destiny, and to achieve this, concrete development actions must be taken. The country needs the contribution of all its sons and daughters, especially the youth. Therefore, it is essential for the authorities to ensure the well-being of this youth, a valuable resource for the realization of programs and projects aimed at the nation’s emergence.
Measures to deter the youth from consuming toxic and harmful products are part of this policy of providing the nation with healthy, vigorous, and capable young people who can contribute to the country’s construction. The government’s recent review of the decree on the packaging and labeling of tobacco products, along with its 2019 amendment, approved by the Council of Ministers, aims primarily to protect citizens, especially young people, from the harmful effects of these dangerous products.
According to the government, the goal is to establish “a uniform, matte, and less attractive color for cigarette packaging, with the obligation to cover at least 80% of each of the main faces of cigarette packs with graphic health warnings”.
The idea is to raise awareness through this new packaging about the disastrous consequences of tobacco products, such as health deterioration and death. It also aims to divert the youth’s attention from these harmful products.
