Togo is launching the pilot phase of its project aimed at connecting customs information systems with the member countries of the Sahel States Alliance (AES).

According to an official note from the Togolese Revenue Office, the first application has been set up for the Lomé-Bamako corridor. This pilot project marks a new momentum in improving trade relations between Togo and the countries of the Sahel States Alliance (AES).

In the implementation of the project, adhering to strictly defined routes followed in real time is now mandatory for transit operators on this strategic route, thanks to the automated system, Sydonia World, which allows this customs interconnection. The goal is to guarantee, simplify, and streamline the transport of goods, especially those coming from the Lomé Autonomous Port to Mali.

Additionally, the extension of the customs system interconnection to the Lomé-Ouagadougou-Niamey corridor in the near future will strengthen Togo’s crucial role as a logistics hub for exchanges with the Sahel.

Thanks to the improved traceability of goods in transit, customs authorities will now be able to more effectively control the flow of goods and ensure the security of regional logistics chains. This strategic move aligns with Togo’s desire to strengthen the position of the Lomé port as the primary gateway for goods to landlocked Sahelian countries.

This reform comes in a regional context marked by ECOWAS sanctions against the military regimes in the Sahel, which have led to severe restrictions on traditional trade exchanges.

This interconnection reaffirms Togo’s commitment to integrating into this new confederation established by the Sahel countries to regain control over their nations and achieve absolute sovereignty with France.
