Burkina Faso: Exchange between Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and women’s representatives from Burkina Faso

The President of the Transition, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, held a meeting on Tuesday morning with representatives of women from Burkina Faso. Coming from the 13 regions of the country, they reaffirmed their commitment alongside the Head of State for the success of his mission to reclaim the national territory.

Under the theme «The Contribution of Women to Security, Peace, and Social Cohesion in Burkina Faso», the women’s coordinations of Burkina Faso held discussions with the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE.

According to the Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender, and Family, Mrs. Nandy SOME/DIALLO, the women of Burkina Faso, through this meeting with the Head of State, want to express their gratitude for his unwavering determination «to combat armed terrorist groups, liberate our territory, and resettle internally displaced people in their villages».

During this meeting, the representatives of women from different regions first highlighted the concerning situation in areas facing significant security challenges.

According to them, women are facing various forms of gender-based violence, such as abductions, slavery, and rape.

In response to this situation, women have not remained on the sidelines of ongoing actions against terrorist attacks.

They have established vigilance structures, initiated actions to support internally displaced persons, and many women have also enrolled as Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

The women didn’t forget to request from Captain Ibrahim Traoré their inclusion in decision-making bodies.

 They encouraged the President to strengthen activities for social and behavioral change communication.

They also wish for equitable access to productive resources, cultivable lands, and housing.

In response to the concerns of the women of Burkina, the Head of State commended them for their mobilization in Ouagadougou and reassured them that the State will do everything possible to «guarantee the lives of individuals».

Captain Ibrahim TRAORE also praised the leadership and actions of women for the restoration of peace in the country.

The President of the Transition finally urged women to continue in this dynamic in favor of social cohesion and the return of peace.

On the spot, the representatives of women handed over a financial contribution to the Head of State on behalf of all the women in our country, for the war effort.
