NIGER: THREAT OF MILITARY INTERVENTION. ABDEL-FATAU MUSAH, THE PEACE COMMISSIONER WHO ADVOCATES WAR

One by one, the conspirators of a war in Niger are revealed. Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, revealed his true colours to the world on Thursday August 17, 2023 in Accra, on the first day of the extraordinary summit of Heads of State on the Niger crisis. His statement came as a surprise to many in the pan-Africanist community. A real paradox for someone who claims to be working for peace and security within the regional institution since his appointment to the post in 2019.

The Ghanaian, who lives with his family in the United States and who is certainly aware of the disastrous consequences of war, is in favor of armed intervention in Niger.

“The truth is that Niger’s military want to be refractory, following the path of Mali, Burkina and Guinea (…). It is in this context that we are gathered here today to carry out the mission assigned to us by the ECOWAS authority, should the committee have to resort to the last means to restore constitutional order in Niger”, he said on Thursday in Accra, urging participants to finalize the deployment of an armed force in Niamey.

ECOWAS member countries “are ready to participate in a rapid reaction force that could intervene in Niger, with the exception of countries under military rule and Cape Verde”, he added. The question on everyone’s mind in the wake of these dangerous remarks is the following: Would Abdel-Fatau Musah say the same thing about his own country, Ghana?

The economies of the West African states are weak, and the countries are dependent on each other on various levels, including trade. In addition to the loss of human life it would cause, a war in Niger would provoke real instability in the sub-region, aggravating development problems and the already deleterious economic situation.

The peoples of the Community and of the entire continent must react immediately and denounce this supporter of war, who intends to sow total chaos in the region after having sheltered his entire family far from the African continent.
