Football: Philippe Coutinho on his way to Qatar

Brazilian international Philippe Coutinho has been on the move from Aston Villa since the start of the summer transfer window, but has now found a new club and will be leaving the Premier League in the near future.

Philippe Coutinho’s career has been full of ups and downs. Disappointing since his €135 million move from Liverpool to Barcelona in January 2018, the Brazil international (68 caps / 21 goals) has never really been able to establish himself in Catalonia and confirm all the hopes placed in him. The former Inter Milan player also failed to establish himself at Aston Villa, where he was loaned out and then transferred in the summer of 2022.

If the 31-year-old attacking midfielder has not taken advantage of the European transfer window to find a new home, it is mainly because he has turned down offers from Spain (Real Betis) and Turkey (Besiktas). But also because Coutinho agreed to join a Qatari club around ten days ago (the mercato is open until September 18 in Qatar).

According to Fabrizio Romano, Philippe Coutinho is heading straight for Al-Duhail. The deal will take the form of a loan, with the Qatari club paying the Vasco da Gama player’s wages in full. The move is sure to infuriate Barça’s directors, who are still looking for every last penny to replenish their coffers, and who had included a percentage on resale when negotiating the Brazilian’s departure.
