Togo: The United States finances the creation of school canteens

Thanks to the support of the United States of America, Togo is to benefit from a new «school canteen» The aim is for the US government to implement its school feeding programme for pupils.

To this end, the US Department of Agriculture is planning to provide a substantial endowment for this initiative.

In total, more than 5,000 tonnes of vegetable oil, peas, rice and cornmeal, as well as local products worth a total of 33 million dollars, or more than 20 billion CFA francs, will be donated through the humanitarian organisation Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

«These food resources will be used to provide daily meals for around 155,000 schoolchildren in 202 schools across the country for the 2023-2024 school year» said the US representation in Togo.

School canteens have been institutionalised in Togo since 2020, with support from the United States and other partners for the first year of implementation.
