Ivory Coast: President Alassane Ouattara separates from Patrick Achi and his government

A press release read out by Abdourahmane Cissé, Secretary General of the Office of the President of the Republic, states that the Ivorian Head of State has dismissed Patrick Achi as Prime Minister. The decision also concerns the members of his government.

What can we learn from this press release?

On Friday 6 October 2023, in accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution, Alassane Ouattara signed a decree terminating the duties of the Prime Minister of the government, as well as those of the members of the government.

The President of the Republic expresses his gratitude to Prime Minister Patrick Achi and all the members of the government for their commitment to serving the nation over the past few years.

«Pending the appointment of the new Prime Minister and the establishment of the new government, the Prime Minister and members of the outgoing government are in charge of expediting day-to-day business», the statement said.

The outgoing Prime Minister, Jérôme Patrick Achi, was appointed to this post on 26 March 2021.
