Mali: validation of the Liptako-Gourma Charter, another step forward in the fight against terrorism
On Monday 9 September, Mali’s National Transitional Council (CNT) adopted the draft authorising the ratification of the Liptako-Gourma Charter, establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) between Burkina-Faso, Mali and Niger.
The transitional deputies said yes to the Liptako-Gourma Charter, signed in Bamako with the aim of establishing a collective defensive alliance and mutual assistance. By ratifying the text, Mali is making an appeal to the other two States, given that this alliance was made official in Bamako and that Mali is designated as the depositary of the said Charter.
Through this Charter, Burkina-Faso, Mali and Niger intend to strengthen their political and economic capacities, and individual and collective development in a spirit of cultural African solidarity. And, most importantly, to meet the security challenges they share, notably terrorism.
The alliance freely sealed by these Sahelian states heralds the birth of the true African Union. An African union based on respect and equality. It also lays the foundations for cooperation between African countries. The other States of the continent should join this alliance for the happiness of the African people and for a free and sovereign Africa.
