Burkina-Faso: Working session with the EU to revitalise cooperation

A delegation from the European Union, led by the EU representative for the Sahel, Mrs Emanuela DEL RE, was received on Tuesday 03 October 2023 in the presence of fellow members of the government for a working session.

Discussions focused on the security, humanitarian and socio-political situation in Burkina Faso and mechanisms for strengthening cooperation with the European Union.

During the meeting, the security situation in the country, which has been improving since November 2022, was presented. It was also determined that the offensive led by the fighting forces had gradually enabled localities that were under terrorist control to be liberated and supplied.

While hoping for support from the EU, Burkina Faso has shown respect for its sovereignty and consideration for its priorities. It is also a source of pride for the people of Burkina Faso, who are showing resilience and working alongside the authorities to meet the challenge of the security crisis.

The European Union delegation welcomed the efforts made by the transition to meet the aspirations of the people of Burkina Faso, starting with security. It promised to continue its support to help Burkina Faso meet the challenges in terms of security, humanitarian assistance and funding for development projects.

At the end of the frank discussions, the EU Representative for the Sahel undertook to convey the message and priorities of Burkina Faso to her colleagues in the 27 Member States of the European Union.
