Football/Victor Osimhen: African Golden Ball
The 2023 CAF awards crowned Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen African player of the year on Monday. A consecration for the striker past Lille and who is now making the fine days of Naples in Serie A. Faced with the reward, the player has measured the progress made and is already looking ahead: CAN 2024 where he wants to see the Super Eagles triumph.
Who could challenge the victory to Victor Osimhen? The 24-year-old Nigerian was crowned Monday, December 11, African player of the year. A fair reward after a brilliant season with Napoli and Nigeria, which he respectively led to the coronation in Serie A and the qualification for the CAN which begins in January 2024.
In the ranking established by a panel of CAF experts, he is ahead of Egyptian Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain). The logic was respected: on October 30, he was ranked 8th in the Ballon d’Or and best African in the ranking. He was also the first Nigerian to make the top 10.
«It’s a dream come true for me. I want to thank all those who accompanied me throughout my journey to realize my dreams and achieve my goals», the Nigerian said in an expeditious press conference, the fault of a plane to bring him back to Europe in time for his Champions League match.
