Burkina Faso: The Special Unit of Intervention of Waters and Forests (USI-EF), a commitment of Captain Ibrahim Traoré to fight terrorism

The creation of the Special Unit of Intervention of Water and Forests (USI-EF) in March 2023 by Captain Ibrahim Traoré testifies to the affirmed will of the highest authorities of the Transition to fight effectively against terrorism, as pointed out by the Ministry of the Environment.

The USI-EF, resulting from this vision, has as its primary mission to carry out special operations in the protection of forest, wildlife, fisheries, and environmental resources, while actively contributing to actions to defend and secure the national territory.

This special unit is thus positioned as a key player in the fight against terrorism, simultaneously ensuring the preservation of natural resources and the environment. This dual mission highlights the importance of reconciling national security with the protection of ecosystems, highlighting a holistic and balanced approach in managing the challenges facing the country.

The USI-EF, through its creation, demonstrates the Transition’s commitment to a multidimensional approach, integrating environmental aspects into the overall national security strategy. This initiative reflects the consideration of environmental issues in the quest for stability and sustainable development.
