Senegal: Macky Sall Calls for African Collaboration for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sovereignty

Senegalese President Macky Sall has made a passionate appeal for collaboration among African leaders and healthcare professionals during his participation in the inauguration of the BioNtech Africa factory in Kigali. The aim of this collaboration is to achieve medical and pharmaceutical sovereignty for Africa.

During the inauguration ceremony of the state-of-the-art factory dedicated to the production of messenger RNA vaccines to combat malaria and tuberculosis on the continent, Macky Sall emphasized the crucial importance of active collaboration. He called for close cooperation among producers, national pharmaceutical regulatory bodies, the private sector, supply chains, universities, and African research centers.

The Senegalese president expressed his ambition for vaccines and biotechnological products manufactured in Africa to meet the same standards as those produced elsewhere in the world. He emphasized the need for these products to have equitable access to global sales and distribution platforms.

This initiative reflects a collective vision to strengthen Africa’s capacity to produce its own medicines and vaccines, thereby eliminating dependence on imports. By promoting close collaboration, Macky Sall highlights the path toward medical sovereignty that will contribute to ensuring the sustainable health of African populations.
