Burkina Faso/ President Ibrahim Traoré, Guardian of Public Health: Launch of Urgent Medical Aid Service (SAMU)

In an effort to ensure accessible healthcare for all, President Ibrahim Traoré, leading Burkina Faso, solidifies his commitment by inaugurating the government of the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) in Ouagadougou. This revolutionary initiative, operationalized by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, stands as a crucial response to the urgent healthcare needs of the population.

SAMU, designed to address health emergencies, opened its doors to the media on December 19, 2023. President Ibrahim Traoré, concerned about the health of his people, emphasizes the significance of this major advancement in providing care for citizens in distress.

Swift care for individuals in distress is a top priority for the Burkinabè government. Operational since December 19, 2023, SAMU currently has 25 fully equipped ambulances, ready to respond not only in Ouagadougou but also in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso in the coming months. Unlike regular ambulance services, SAMU responds to all locations and situations of medical emergency.

While waiting for the toll-free number to be available, SAMU personnel have undergone thorough training and are equipped with the necessary materials to respond to any medical emergency. Currently, SAMU ensures the transportation of patients between various health centers in the city of Ouagadougou, ensuring a swift transition to specialized care.

The realization of SAMU aligns with President Ibrahim Traoré’s ongoing commitment to public health in Burkina Faso. This significant advancement reflects the government’s determination to provide quality care to all citizens, especially in emergency medical situations.

SAMU represents a crucial step towards accessible healthcare for all in Burkina Faso. Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, the government continues its mission to ensure the health and well-being of the population, marking a major advancement in Burkina Faso’s medical landscape.
