CAN 2024: Cape Verde surprises Ghana at the very end of the meeting

Despite a goal from former Strasbourg’s Alexander Djiku (56th), Ghana lost (1-2) to Cape Verde, who scored by Jamiro Monteiro (17th) and Garry Rodrigues (90th + 2). A very surprising result in this beginning of CAN in view of the teams, but logical on the match.

In the stands, the small Cape Verdean colony exploded, sang, danced, the players congratulated themselves on the pitch as if they had won the AFCON so much this victory won at the end of the end against Ghana (2-1, Rodrigues, 90th + 2) will resonate in the country as a major feat.

But the road is still long for the Blue Sharks in an uncertain group where we almost found ourselves with Egypt and the Black Stars at zero points this Sunday evening.

The Black Stars were able to react during the second half, and equalized with a skilful header from Alexander Djiku (56th), who, like Ofori, saved several dangerous situations in front of the Ghanaian cage.

Andre Ayew’s partners, who entered at the end of the match, were already on a CAN defeat in the final minutes, beaten 3-2 by the Comoros in the last group game two years ago, where they had been eliminated in the first round.

The next game for the Black Stars will be cleaver, because next Thursday, they will face another nation in bad shape in this group B, Egypt of Mohamed Salah. The slightest misstep could be costly…
