Cameroon : Federation rejects Samuel Eto’o’s resignation

After the elimination of the Indomitable Lions in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) tendered his resignation. However, apparently, this decision by Samuel Eto’o was rejected by the federation’s executive committee.

At the helm of the national football governing body since 2021, the Cameroonian legend officially announced his decision to step down, but to everyone’s surprise, the Fecafoot executive committee opposed it. This occurred during a meeting to assess the Lions’ participation in the 2023 AFCON.

« At the end of the deliberations, the members of the executive committee decided to continue their current mandates and subsequently, unanimously rejected the resignation of the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation », the statement issued for this purpose indicated.

The statement further added that the executive committee reaffirmed its « full confidence in him to continue in the same momentum of rebuilding and development of Cameroonian football, from grassroots to the top, as outlined in his project ».
