Burkina Faso : Altitude Nahouri Act 15 : Preparations and innovations for the upcoming edition

The 15th edition of the Altitude Nahouri athletics competition will take place on March 23, 2024, in Pô. Several hundred athletes from different regions are expected to participate in this event under the theme « Youth and Engagement ».

For this edition, athletes will be required to pay registration fees, set at 5000 CFA francs for nationals, 20.000 francs for athletes from the sub-region, and 40.000 francs for foreigners. Registrations will be open from February 22 to March 18, 2024.

The president of the organizing committee, Urbain Bamogo, emphasized that everything was already in place for the event. He specified that the usual circuit would include a 21 km half-marathon followed by the ascent of Mount Nahouri, reaching 447 meters.

According to Ouezzin Louis Oulon, the initiator of the competition, athletes from Burkina Faso and other countries in the sub-region as well as from around the world are expected to succeed Kenyan Mburu John Muiruri.

A festive evening, in Djongo style, will be held at the Olympic village on the night of February 22, offering visibility to sponsors and promoting culture among youth.

This edition brings several innovations, including registration fees that were previously free, and a prize for the winner now amounting to 1.200.000 CFA francs.

Prizes for the winners include an envelope of 1.200.000 francs for the first, 800.000 francs for the second, 400,000 francs for the third, etc. The top 30 will be rewarded. Special prizes are also planned, with 300.000 francs for the first Burkinabe, a motorcycle for the first woman, and 50.000 francs for the first woman from the locality.

Altitude Nahouri is a 21 km race, followed by an ascent of Mount Nahouri (447 m) in the eponymous village. Registrations are open at RTB radio and at the headquarters of the Burkinabè Athletics Federation. Moov Africa and I AM GOLD ESSAKANE are the sponsors of this edition.
