Burkina Faso/Security : Indiscipline in the military, government takes necessary measures
In response to the indiscipline of certain elements within the Special Intervention Unit of Water and Forests, the government is taking appropriate measures. Within an army, discipline and respect for the rules of the game are essential for the accomplishment of the mission assigned to each unit or element.
It appears that some elements within the Special Intervention Unit of Water and Forests have attempted to circumvent this discipline by defying the instructions of the hierarchy. According to the Burkinabe Ministry responsible for Environment, Water, and Sanitation, individuals within this unit organized a protest movement.
Moreover, this rebellious faction of the unit, consisting of a total of 165 elements, refused to obey the orders of the hierarchy. Not only that, on February 21st, they confronted the Director General of Water and Forests, disrupting all movement within the department.
Such behavior from a military unit is considered very serious and unacceptable according to the general disciplinary regulations of Water and Forests.
Hence, the decision to dissolve this undisciplined unit was made by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, February 28th, during its weekly meeting. The 165 elements involved in the protest will be sanctioned in accordance with the regulations, reassured the Minister in charge of the Environment, Roger BARO.
This decision aims to maintain order within the army and deter any attempts contrary to regulations. It is worth noting that the Special Intervention Unit of Water and Forests was established in 2023 and became operational in the second half of the same year with a staff of 250 men, as specified by the government.
