Togo receives support from the Global Fund to combat Infectious Diseases
Togo has just received a breath of fresh air in its fight against infectious diseases with the announcement of new grants from the Global Fund for the period 2024-2026. These funds, totaling a considerable amount of 112.8 million euros, approximately 74 billion CFA francs, are earmarked for combating HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, as well as COVID-19.
This announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Togolese Prime Minister, Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, in Lomé. These new financings represent a significant increase of over 14% compared to previous grants, demonstrating recognition of the progress made by Togo in public health.
A significant portion of these funds will be dedicated to consolidating national programs to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Furthermore, these grants will also help strengthen healthcare infrastructure throughout the country, including equipping the Central Purchasing Agency for Essential and Generic Drugs of Togo (CAMEG-TOGO).
It is noteworthy that these funds are not limited solely to combating existing diseases but also aim to enhance prevention and quality care services, particularly in the context of HIV and tuberculosis epidemics.
During her speech, the head of government highlighted the significant progress made by Togo in the field of health, including the elimination of several viral diseases and the strengthening of technical capacities in all regions of the country. She also emphasized the government’s commitment to gradually operationalize and make universal health insurance effective throughout 2024.
These new grants from the Global Fund represent an important step in Togo’s fight against infectious diseases.
