AES Confederation: A new motto to “strengthen the sovereignist spirit

After the failure of ECOWAS mediation in the AES countries, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger withdrew from the commission on January 28, 2024.

Having been united in an alliance since September 16, 2023, these three countries have begun major reforms within their territories. These include improvements to their military, the free movement of people and goods with the introduction of the AES passport, and the modernization of industrialization to ensure national production and food self-sufficiency.

These remarkable developments have been praised by the populations, reflecting the impact of these changes on citizens’ daily lives. Today, a major challenge lies ahead for the AES in achieving its sovereignty, namely the adoption of a new common currency for the member states of the confederation.

This issue is considered essential by the head of the Confederation of Pan-African Associations and Movements of West Africa, Abdoulaye Nabaloum: “We cannot say we have made this revolution without having the AES currency, or at least a currency that is not tied to the euro, a currency that is not produced by France”, he declared to Sputnik.

If adopted, this currency will “further strengthen the sovereignist spirit” and enable the Sahel countries, members of this alliance, to completely detach themselves from France’s directives.
