The integration of the member states of the Sahel States Alliance (AES) is entering a decisive phase with the announcement of the launch of confederation passports starting January 29, 2025. This document, a symbol of unity and shared sovereignty, marks a significant milestone in the realization of the free movement of citizens, one of the key pillars of the AES roadmap.

According to Burkina Faso’s Minister of Communication, Gilbert Pingdwendé Ouédraogo, these passports will gradually replace the old ones, although those bearing the ECOWAS logo will remain valid until their expiration. Citizens holding the old passports may, however, choose to replace them immediately under the established procedures. This initiative aims to simplify travel and strengthen the sense of confederate belonging.

The President of the AES reassured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the effectiveness of this progress. With the operationalization of this ambitious project, the AES is demonstrating its firm commitment to turning the ideal of regional integration into a tangible reality for the benefit of its people.
