AES / Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance : Malian Delegation in Ouagadougou
A high-level Malian delegation, including the Minister of State for Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdoulaye Diop, along with five other ministers, was warmly welcomed by Burkina Faso’s Minister of State for Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Kassoum Coulibaly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad, H.E. Karamoko Jean Marie Traore, Minister of Digital Transformation, Posts, and Electronic Communications, Mrs. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, and Minister Delegate for Regional Cooperation, Estella Eldine Kabre/Kabore, among other Burkinabe officials, upon their arrival in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
The Malian delegation’s visit to Burkina Faso is part of a meeting of the Ministers of the Sahel States Alliance (SSA) scheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2024. According to the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs, this meeting in Ouagadougou marks a significant turning point for the Sahel States Alliance (SSA) in light of the geopolitical and geostrategic context.
Highlighting Burkina Faso as a brotherly country and a strategic partner of Mali, H.E. Abdoulaye Diop stated that Colonel Assimi Goita expressed the desire for a strong mobilization of the Malian government to materialize the strategic choices of the SSA.
The Sahel States Alliance began with the adoption of the Charter of the Sahel States Alliance on September 16, 2023, which established a military alliance that gradually evolved to include other dimensions such as economic and trade integration and people-to-people exchanges.
