AFCON 2025/Qualifiers: A decisive match for Togo’s sparrowhawks this thursday

The Togolese national football team, the Sparrowhawks, will face Algeria’s Desert Foxes this Thursday, October 10, at the Annaba Stadium located in northeastern Algeria. This match is part of the 3rd round of qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Both teams are preparing intensely for the game, but Togo will be without their first-choice goalkeeper, Geoffrey Agbolossou.

Agbolossou sustained an external muscle injury during training in Tunisia and, according to reports, requires surgery. He has been replaced by Mahadiou Sama, the goalkeeper for ASKO. The absence of Geoffrey Agbolossou is seen as a significant blow to the team, but they remain focused and determined to secure a positive result against Algeria.

Currently ranked second in Group E with 2 points after two draws, against Liberia at home and Equatorial Guinea, Togo will need to seize opportunities in their next two matches to keep their hopes of AFCON qualification alive. On the other hand, Algeria, two-time AFCON champions in 1990 and 2019, is already considered a strong favorite after two consecutive victories against Equatorial Guinea and Liberia. For now, Algeria sits at the top of Group E.
