Africa/Foot : CAF sets CAN 2025 playoff dates in Morocco
The Confederation of African Football officially announced on Sunday, December 24, 2023, the dates for the qualifiers of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco. Just days before the kickoff of the 2023 AFCON scheduled in Ivory Coast, CAF unveiled the schedule for the qualifiers for the 35th edition of AFCON.
On its official website, the governing body of African football announced that the first two rounds of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers will take place from September 2 to 10, 2024. Subsequently, the third and fourth rounds will be held between October 7 and 15, 2024. Finally, the last two rounds are scheduled from November 11 to 19 of the same year.
Before entering the group stage of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the teams with lower FIFA rankings will be determined through a preliminary round, scheduled between March 18 and 26, 2024. The winners of this preliminary phase will be placed in Pot 4 during the draw.
In addition to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, several other competitions will animate the year 2024. The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.
The third round of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup will take place from June 3 to 11, 2024. In 2024, Morocco will host the final stage of the Women’s AFCON, and the qualifiers for CHAN will also be on the agenda.
