Africa/Football: CAF imposes severe sanction on Krépin Diatta for his accusations
Krépin Diatta has been severely sanctioned by the CAF, receiving a 4-match suspension (2 suspended) and a fine of 10 million CFA francs. These disciplinary measures follow an investigation opened by CAF into comments made by Diatta during Senegal’s defeat by Côte d’Ivoire in the last 16 of the CAN.
In a video, the player levelled accusations of corruption at African soccer’s governing body, declaring: « You have killed us, you are corrupt. Keep your African Cup… You are corrupt ».
These statements, reported by several witnesses, led to the opening of a disciplinary investigation by CAF. Diatta was heard last week by CAF’s disciplinary committee, but was unable to present a defence or provide evidence to support his accusations.
As a result, he has been heavily sanctioned by African soccer’s governing body. This decision underlines the importance of discipline and respect for ethical rules in professional soccer, while reminding us that accusations of corruption must be backed up by tangible evidence.
