Africa : Malian authorities Sanction French Channel France 2 for Spreading Terrorist Propaganda
In a determined commitment to safeguard national security and counter the growing threat of terrorism, Malian authorities have intensified their efforts against media outlets disseminating extremist ideologies.
A clear position has been adopted against media involved in promoting terrorism, demonstrating Mali’s proactive willingness to eliminate this threat.
French television channel France 2 sparked outrage from Malian authorities by broadcasting propaganda in favor of terrorist groups. France 2 aired content aimed at promoting extremist ideologies, thereby jeopardizing Mali’s national security.
In response, the Malian government immediately suspended the broadcast of France 2 within its territory and launched a thorough investigation to assess the extent of the influence of these contents.
Following the broadcast of a documentary, France 2 has been suspended from the official lineup for a period of 4 months. The documentary glorified terrorism and justified the presence of French forces as part of Operation Barkhane, which concluded in 2022.
Authorities have labeled these actions as a serious threat to regional stability. In the incriminated documentary, Malian authorities also accuse journalists of not bringing balance to their content by failing to invite an official Malian representative.
Severe sanctions will be imposed on media found guilty of promoting extremist ideologies, and authorities are committed to vigorously pursuing any violations of these directives. This approach aims to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent any attempts at radicalization through the media.
