Ranked second among African copper producers, Zambia maintains a leading position in the mining industry. Considered a strategic pillar of its economy, the mining sector is at the heart of the Zambian government’s priorities, which aims to make it the main driver of growth and investment.

The country has a bold ambition to increase its annual copper production to 3 million tons by the end of the 2030s. To achieve this goal, the authorities are focusing on modernizing infrastructure, intensifying investments, and adopting more sustainable mining practices.

In 2024, Zambia recorded an impressive performance with a 12% increase in copper production compared to 2023. The total volume produced reached 820,670 tons, up from 732,580 tons the previous year.

This growth reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to optimize its extraction capabilities and enhance its competitiveness on the global market.

Building on this progress, Zambia aspires to solidify its leadership role in Africa and attract more international partners, while sustainably valuing its mining heritage.
