Afrique/AES : Burkina Faso’s new motto inspired by patriotic commitment

In a historic move, the Transitional Legislative Assembly of Burkina Faso unanimously approved the adoption of a new national motto: “The Homeland or Death, We Shall Overcome,” on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This motto, symbolic and imbued with determination, replaces the previous trilogy of “Unity – Progress – Justice.”

By adopting this slogan, Burkinabe authorities aim to instill a renewed sense of patriotism and further unite the nation around values of resilience and collective commitment.

This choice marks an important turning point in Burkina Faso’s history. For the 71 transitional deputies, it represents a strengthening of national identity, drawing on a message that reflects the deep aspirations of the people.

“The Homeland or Death, We Shall Overcome” is intended not only as a declaration of intent but also as a commitment for the future, illustrating the determination of Burkinabe people to preserve their sovereignty and build a stable and prosperous country, despite the challenges it faces.

By making this motto a foundation of public life, Burkinabe authorities affirm their desire for every citizen to embody these values in their daily lives. This slogan also pays homage to the country’s revolutionary legacy and to those who have fought for the independence and dignity of the Burkinabe people in the past.

From now on, this motto will serve as a compass to guide public actions and decisions, ensuring that solidarity and patriotic commitment are deeply rooted in all layers of society.

Through this new motto, Burkina Faso aligns itself with an ideal of unity and collective courage, asserting its determination to overcome trials through strong patriotic engagement. For both leaders and citizens, this motto embodies the promise of a free and resilient Burkina Faso, uniting all vital forces of the nation to build a future where every Burkinabe can thrive with dignity.
