Algeria: Mahmoud Abbas’s cry of alarm meets with a favourable response in Algiers
Since Saturday 7 October, the conflict between Hamas and the Hebrew state has flared up again, to the point where the international community now fears genocide.
The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, received a telephone call from his brother, the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, according to a press release issued by the Presidency of the Republic of Algeria on Monday.
«The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, informed the President of the Republic of the serious abuses committed by the occupying forces against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank» the statement said.
President Tebboune reiterated to the Palestinian President the full solidarity of Algeria, its people and government, with the brotherly Palestinian people, stressing that «these developments remind everyone that a just and comprehensive peace as a strategic option can only be achieved through the establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian State with Al-Quds as its capital in accordance with international law and the Arab peace initiative».
For his part, President Abbas expressed to the President of the Republic «his warm thanks and consideration for Algeria’s firm support for the just Palestinian cause»
