Boston Marathon: Obiri and Chebet made a remarkable entry
Since Monday, April 17, is taking place the 127th Marathon in Boston Massachusetts (USA) featuring nearly 30,000 athletes from more than 100 countries. African countries are not excepted. So, we have some African athletes who have well begun the competition; namely the Kenyans Evans Chebet and Hellen Obiri.
The two Kenyans stormed to victory in the men’s and women’s races at this long distance-running showpiece in Boston.
It was under bad weather conditions that the Champion Evans Chebet won this prestigious marathon for the second time in a row.
He upstaged his compatriot, the world Record Holder Eliud Kipchoge. The latter contented himself with the sixth place; a huge surprise from the master chief of this discipline who had won 15 over his 17 first races.
Indeed, Evans Chebet finished in a time of 2hrs 5 min 54, sec, with Tanzanias Gabriel Geay second in 2:06:04.
Concerning Hellen Obiri, the two-time Olympic silver medallist in the 5,000 meters, she won the women’s race in 2:21:38 to complete the Kenyan sweep.
The Ethiopian Amane Beriso of Ethiopia was second. She finished 12 seconds behind the Kenyan.
