Burkina Faso: A green revolution underway under the vision of President Ibrahim Traoré
The Burkinabe government, under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, is engaged in a real battle to strengthen the country’s vegetation cover. This ambition is part of the “Battle for the Strengthening of Vegetation Cover in Faso” (BARCOUVE) initiative, launched during the National Tree Day in June 2024. In Ouagadougou, the planting of alignments along 25 kilometers and the de velopment of three roundabouts covering 5,000 m² already showcase the tangible progress of this project, supported by a state budget and the help of technical and financial partners.
During a recent visit, the Minister for the Environment, Roger Baro, praised the citizen and patriotic commitment to this program, which also includes initiatives in Bobo-Dioulasso and Gaoua. The concepts “One roundabout, one landscaping project” and “One street, one avenue, one planting alignment” reflect the President’s vision for resilient and sustainable cities. Innovations such as protecting trees with fencing, providing water through drilling, and offering maintenance services by contractors reinforce the efficiency and sustainability of these efforts.
Thus, Burkina Faso is mobilizing for a green revolution, engaging all citizens in a dynamic of greening and combating climate challenges. With new sites identified, such as the Ouaga 2000 interchange, this ecological policy marks a decisive step toward greener cities and better quality of life for all.
