Burkina Faso: A Major Step Towards Sustainable Electrification in the Presence of H.E. Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla
The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, presided over the inauguration of the Kôdéni photovoltaic solar power plant in Matourkou, in the Hauts-Bassins region. The event took place last Saturday, December 16th, marking a crucial step in the country’s efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy.
With a capacity of 38 MWp, the solar power plant, built on an area of 70 hectares, is intended to produce an average of 73 GWh of energy per year for the National Interconnected Grid (RNI). This will provide electricity to approximately 42.000 households, significantly improving access to electricity for citizens.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of the state as a guarantor of the contractual terms by the company AFRICAREN, responsible for the construction and operation of the plant. He insisted on the need for AFRICAREN to adhere to the strictest standards to ensure the reliability and continuous operational success of the plant.
The Minister of Energy, Simon Pierre Boussim, added that the construction of the plant took into account traditional aspects, ensuring harmonious collaboration with the local population. He highlighted that, during ritual periods, the population would be allowed to perform their rites, thus illustrating a positive collaboration between the community and the company.
The Kôdéni solar power plant represents a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to environmental preservation and the promotion of sustainable development in Burkina Faso.
