Burkina Faso: A Year-End marked by the determination of the FDS and VDP against Terrorism
In recent weeks, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) have intensified their efforts to strengthen security across the entire national territory. Their targeted operations reflect an unwavering determination to eradicate terrorism and restore peace in Burkina Faso.
In the Boucle du Mouhoun, an offensive launched on December 13, 2024, in Barakuy, in the Biron area, resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of logistical materials. These actions highlight the increasing strength of the combat forces in the face of rising threats.
Similar operations in the East and Sahel regions have also yielded positive results. In Barani, the neutralization of terrorists was accompanied by the return of stolen livestock, enhancing security for rural communities.
On December 15, a precise airstrike destroyed an enemy logistical convoy spotted in Wanbsouya, obliterating a terrorist base. In the Bomborokuy region, a base in Boulé was dismantled through effective coordination between ground and air forces.
The vigilance of the Burkinabe forces was also exemplary in Kawara, in the Tougan region, where a terrorist incursion attempt was repelled on December 17. A swift intervention from aerial forces eliminated the fleeing assailants and destroyed their base.
On December 18, an enemy infiltration in Zimsa, in the Centre-North region, was thwarted thanks to a rapid air response. A few days later, in Tin-Akoff, in the Sahel, two suspected terrorist leaders were eliminated during separate, precisely executed operations.
On December 25, another enemy base, located 20 km northeast of Manni, was destroyed in an operation involving special forces, ground units, and aerial support. The criminals were neutralized, and their logistics, including vehicles, were annihilated, including a pickup truck stolen from the United Nations.
These coordinated actions are a testament to the unwavering commitment of the FDS and VDP to protect the population and reaffirm national sovereignty. Their bravery is a legitimate source of pride and deserves to be celebrated.
