Burkina-Faso: African floorball champion
At the African floorball championships held from 16 to 17 September 2023 at the Treichville Sports Palace in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso shone. The men’s and women’s teams of Burkina Faso won the titles of African champions by defeating Côte d’Ivoire and Kenya respectively.
Floorball is a sport similar to field hockey, played by two teams of five players. This discipline was introduced in Burkina Faso by Göran Björkdahl, a Swede. As a result, Burkina Faso has become the undisputed champion of floorball in Africa.
On the men’s side, the Burkinabe team triumphed over the Ivorian national team with a score of 3 to 2. The Burkinabe are the only team to have won all their matches during the competition.
As for the women’s team, after a brilliant career, they had to face the determination of the Kenyan national team, which did not want to let themselves be fooled. Both teams were forced to use penalties. Finally, the representative of Burkina Faso won this session 1-0.
