Burkina Faso: Agriculture, the pillar of food self-sufficiency, at the heart of reforms and a priority for President Ibrahim Traoré
Agriculture, a pillar of food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso, is one of the key priorities of President Ibrahim Traoré. Aware of the challenges related to food security, his government is committed to cleaning up and reorganizing this vital sector. During the Council of Ministers meeting on December 26, an important decision was made with the adoption of a decree to dissolve the Consular Assemblies of agricultural chambers.
Commander Ismaël Sombié, Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, explained that this reform aims to address ongoing issues in agricultural management, particularly the lack of elections for renewing the Consular Assemblies. From now on, regional agricultural chambers will be supervised by regional directorates, while the National Chamber of Agriculture will report to the general directorate responsible for rural affairs.
This reorganization reflects the government’s commitment to improving governance and efficiency in the agricultural sector. It demonstrates President Ibrahim Traoré’s dedication to mobilizing all necessary resources to ensure a dynamic and resilient agriculture that can sustainably feed the Burkinabe population and address economic and social challenges.
