Burkina Faso: Appointment of Burkina’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation
Since Ibrahim Traoré assumed power, relations between Burkina Faso and Russia have intensified, making Russia the country’s top ally.In the context of strengthening cooperation between the two nations, the Burkinabe government appointed Aristide Rapougdouba Ludovic Tapsoba on Wednesday as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Burkina Faso to the Russian Federation.
His defense attaché will be officer Yasnémanégré Sawadogo, the former president of the Burkinabe Cycling Federation.
Assuming office last September 2022 in Abidjan, the new Russian ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, also representing Russia for Burkina Faso, Alexey Saltykov, made his first visit to Ouagadougou on January 12, 2023. According to President Vladimir Putin’s statements during his meeting on July 25, 2023, in Saint Petersburg, Russia announced its intention to reopen its embassy in Burkina Faso, 31 years after its closure in 1992, expressing confidence that this decision would be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The cooperation between Russia and Burkina Faso spans several domains, including military, economic, health, and education, among others.
