Burkina Faso: Bam and Sanmatenga provinces no more under curfew
This decision is a sigh of relief for the populations of the provinces of Bam and Sanmatenga. Starting from this Monday, April 17, 2023, the curfew is lifted throughout these two provincial territories in the central-western region of Burkina Faso.
The interruption of this security measure was notified by the High Commissioners of these two provinces through official announcements.
The curfew directive had been put in place since March 5th of this year. It was part of the fight against terrorist violence and the liberation of territories under the control of attacking groups, thus restricting the freedom of movement and activities of the populations from 10 pm to 5 am.
The High Commissioners of Bam, Adama Jean-Yves Béré, and Sanmatenga province, Abraham Somdo, have informed the populations that the curfews «established in the fight against terrorism, are lifted from today, April 17, 2023».
Through these announcements from the administrative authorities of Bam and Sanmatenga, the populations can now freely pursue their activities and are called upon to be vigilant citizens.
In other words, they are invited to continue their collaboration with the military and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
