Burkina Faso: Bassolma Bazié officially installed as head of the National Commission of the Confederation of Sahel States

On Monday, January 13, 2025, Bassolma Bazié was officially installed as president of the National Commission of the Confederation of Sahel States (CN-CES) in Ouagadougou. The event took place at the Kosyam multipurpose hall in the presence of numerous dignitaries, delegations from Mali and Niger, as well as civil society leaders supporting the dynamics of the Sahel States Alliance (AES).

President of Faso, Captain Anderson Médah, who officially handed over the “attributes” to the new president. Captain Médah emphasized the strategic role of the CN-CES and urged Bassolma Bazié to unite efforts to meet the significant expectations of the populations.

In his speech, Bassolma Bazié paid tribute to the defense forces and citizens who fell victim to terrorism, while also honoring historical figures of African unity, such as Modibo Keïta, Thomas Sankara, and Kwame Nkrumah. He also acknowledged the vision of the heads of state of the CES member countries—Assimi Goïta, Abdourahamane Tiani, and Ibrahim Traoré—for their leadership in creating this confederation and their strategic withdrawal from ECOWAS in January 2024.

The president of the CN-CES emphasized that this commission, conceived as a pillar of regional integration, aims to coordinate and monitor the activities of the Confederation while working towards unity and progress. He called for a synergy of action among the various components of society to achieve the objectives of sovereignty and integration.

The CN-CES will play a key role in coordinating the implementation of the Confederation’s decisions, preparing meetings for the heads of state, and raising awareness among the populations about the goals of the AES. Bassolma Bazié promised to mobilize all necessary resources to fulfill this historic mission and leave a strong legacy for future generations.
