Burkina-Faso: book days to promote Burkina Faso literature

Books from Burkina Faso are being celebrated from 5 to 7 October at the Goethe Institute in Ouagadougou. This is the first edition of the Dewtere books fair, initiated by the association of Burkinabe women writers «Mots d’Elles».

For 72 hours, Burkinabe authors will be celebrated through their works. The aim of the exhibition is to promote Burkinabe literature and to reflect on the role of books in the development of individuals and society.

In addition to the sales exhibition, conferences and panels are also on the agenda. Themes such as «the importance of reading for learning» and «how to reconcile young people with reading in the age of social networks» will be addressed during the panels.

According to the president of the Mots d’elles association, Bernadette Dao, the idea is to encourage young people, especially pupils and students, to read. «Our intention is really to promote reading, especially among young people, alongside all the riches that the Internet has to offer. We must not forget books» she stressed.

The Minister for Communication, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, welcomed the initiative, which reinforces his department’s efforts to promote Burkinabe literature.
