Burkina Faso: Burkinabe customs deal a heavy blow to drug traffickers
Burkinabe customs forces have recently dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks. In just a few days, between late December 2024 and early January 2025, they seized nearly 7 tons of Indian hemp and amphetamines. This large-scale operation represents an estimated market value of over 169 million FCFA.
This series of seizures highlights the strengthening of the operational capacity of Burkinabe customs in the fight against illicit trafficking. Authorities emphasize increased collaboration between various security forces and optimized surveillance methods to detect and intercept suspicious shipments.
These substances, intended to fuel local and cross-border networks, pose a major threat to security and social stability. The government has praised the commitment of the customs officers, who, at the risk of their lives, work to cleanse the Burkinabe territory of these destructive scourges.
These recent seizures mark an important step in the fight against drug trafficking in Burkina Faso. They also serve as a reminder of the need to continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks, while raising public awareness about the dangers of these substances.
