Burkina Faso : Captain Ibrahim’s Men neutralize several terrorists, capture others, and destroy bases
Burkinabe security forces, supported by aerial means, carried out anti-terrorist operations over the weekend in several regions of the country, yielding significant results. Preliminary reports indicate that several terrorists were killed and others captured during these interventions, according to security sources.
On Sunday, May 5, 2024, sentries from the military detachment in Soudougui (Koulpélogo, Central-East) spotted terrorists in a small grove near the camp. Aerial assets confirmed it as a significant enemy base. Following an initial strike, ground forces engaged the terrorists, eliminating those attempting to flee and recovering equipment.
On the same day, the 5th and 9th Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) launched a decisive assault on a terrorist base in the Mansila area (Yagha, Sahel region). Troops neutralized several criminals and seized equipment.
Other operations took place on May 4, 2024, involving the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP). Aerial assets were deployed to support VDP forces under attack by terrorists in Datou (Central-East). The criminals, attempting to flee towards the Nouaho forest with stolen animals, were targeted until their base was destroyed.
On the same day, a column of terrorists was spotted in the Wabsouya area, Central-North, heading towards Ouintokuilga for a meeting. An airstrike disrupted the gathering, causing the guards to flee and neutralizing the terrorist leaders.
These operations mark significant advancements in the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso. Efforts to secure the national territory continue to ensure the country’s stability.
