Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré boosts unprecedented security, the figures speak for themselves

Since becoming President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has undertaken major reforms to restore security and stability to Burkina Faso. Among the flagship measures, the creation of 28 Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) and 13 Mobile Intervention Unit Groups (GUMI) reflects a strategic response to security threats. Thanks to these new units, the Defense and Security Forces have intensified their actions in the field, organizing 52,000 security patrols, which has greatly contributed to the reconquest of territories formerly under the control of terrorist groups.
The government’s efforts are also reflected in the return of displaced populations to their places of origin. To date, 212 villages have been resettled, marking a clear step towards peace and social reconstruction. At the same time, 14,000 fighting forces have been recruited and equipped, strengthening the armed forces’ operational capabilities. On the administrative front, 15 constituency seats previously abandoned due to insecurity have been reopened, a sign of the gradual return of State authority throughout the country.
This progress has been made possible by exceptional financial mobilization, with FCFA 175 billion invested in strengthening security capacities and rebuilding affected areas. In addition, security indicators show a significant improvement, with 71% of the territory now under secure control. Thanks to these successes, Burkina Faso is moving closer to lasting peace, offering its citizens the hope of a more serene and prosperous future.
