Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in the footsteps of Captain Thomas Sankara?

Author of the second coup d’état in eight months in Faso against the power of Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Henri Damiba, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who now has the destiny of the country of honest men, faces validly many challenges that require courage and a sense of duty.If Captain Sankara has remained engraved in the collective memory of Burkinabé and Africans as an indisputable charismatic leader, will the new strong man of Faso who accedes to power in the prime of life like the father of the Burkinabe revolution, be able to show foresight like the latter?

West Africa has recently been experiencing the rhythm of coups, the latest being that of the young captain Ibrahim Traoré in Burkina Faso. This 34-year-old officer who opted for the profession of arms in 2012, after university studies, has been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism in his country.

Man of the field and patriot, it is the injustice maintained by his predecessor within the army, which will motivate him to carry out the putsch of September 30, 2022, to restore order and ensure tranquility for the Burkinabe people.

“The work has already begun for the homeland, our goal is to save our country and ensure peace of mind for our compatriots. The fight against terrorism will be our priority, and our mission is also to restore the national economy,” said Captain Ibrahim Traoré during a meeting with diplomats accredited in his country.

Like Captain Sankara at the time, Captain Traoré’s youth is a great asset for him to be able to embody the values that can make him a great leader capable of meeting the security, economic and social challenges of Burkina Faso.

It must also show foresight by adopting new paradigms of cooperation, with countries likely to effectively help its army in its fight against terrorism, unlike previous cooperation.
