Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré invests over 13 billion CFA francs to modernize agriculture and achieve food self-sufficiency

The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, is fully committed to the development of agriculture in order to achieve food self-sufficiency. In this regard, his government has invested over 13 billion CFA francs for the acquisition of new modern agricultural equipment. This equipment, including bulldozers, graders, and other specialized machinery, will help improve hydro-agricultural infrastructures and increase the productivity of arable land in Burkina Faso.
To ensure the prompt receipt and commissioning of this equipment, the State Minister in charge of Agriculture, Commander Ismaël Sombié, visited the port of Tema in Ghana on February 20, 2025. There, he oversaw the arrival of the equipment intended to strengthen the capabilities of the National Office for Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Development (ONBAH) as well as the National Society for Land Development and Rural Equipment (SONATER). This initiative is part of the President’s vision, which places food security at the heart of his priorities.
Thanks to this investment, land development and water management projects will be accelerated, facilitating continuous agricultural production. This significant step reflects the Burkinabé government’s determination to provide sustainable solutions to the challenges of the agropastoral sector, thereby strengthening the country’s food independence and improving the well-being of its population.
