Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré pays tribute to the struggle for liberation and development in memory of Thomas Sankara

On August 4, 2024, Burkina Faso celebrated a memorable date in its history. The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, paid tribute to the historic struggle led by the Burkinabe people under the leadership of Captain Thomas Sankara. This day symbolizes the resistance against imperialism and the commitment to endogenous development.

In 1983, Captain Thomas Sankara, a charismatic and revolutionary figure, took the helm of the country. His leadership marked the beginning of a radical transformation of Burkina Faso. Sankara promoted policies of self-reliance, social justice, and the fight against corruption. He also advocated for food self-sufficiency, agrarian reform, and the improvement of living conditions for the underprivileged.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré emphasized the importance of remembering this historic struggle. “On this day, August 4, 2024, our country remembers the struggle undertaken by the Burkinabe people, under the leadership of Captain Thomas SANKARA, to free themselves from the yoke of imperialism and assert themselves as a proud nation resolutely focused on endogenous development”, he declared.

Thomas Sankara, often dubbed the “African Che Guevara”, left a lasting legacy. His approach to endogenous development continues to inspire many Burkinabe. His call for emancipation and self-determination still resonates in the aspirations of the people.
