Burkina Faso / Council of Ministers: President Ibrahim Traoré refocuses the national budget on strategic priorities

Under the leadership of H.E Ibrahim Traoré, the Council of Ministers convened this Wednesday to review and adopt key measures aimed at strengthening the socio-economic foundations of the country. At the heart of the decisions was a reorientation of budgetary priorities, allowing the government to better align state resources with the critical needs of the Burkinabe people.

The President of Faso H.E Ibrahim, personally led the budgetary decisions by meeting individually with each minister and their team. This approach aims to refocus the national budget on high-impact sectors such as education, healthcare, food security, and social protection, while limiting operational expenses to increase investments in strategic infrastructure projects.

This revision also helps reduce the budget deficit, which decreases from 3.7% to 3.2%, bringing it closer to the 3% target set by the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

This initiative is part of a broader effort to rationalize public finances and respond more directly and efficiently to the needs of citizens, while strengthening the country’s capacity to tackle current challenges.
