Burkina Faso: Electric motorcycles are increasingly on demand in Ouaga
The streets of Ouagadougou, the capital of two-wheelers, are increasingly covered by automated and silent electric motorcycles, as we saw on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Emilienne Compaoré, an intern, set out to discover these revolutionary engines. Electric powered motorcycles are now commonplace in the city.
In a shop located on Yennenga Avenue, the specialty is the sale of electric motorcycles, available in a variety of colors such as red, blue and white.
The range of products is explained by the commercial representative of the establishment specialized in electric motorcycles, Yveder Nicolas Zongo, which includes electric scooters for children and adults, offered in a price range from 250,000 to 560,000 FCFA, depending on the battery life. The charging process is simple: simply plug a charger into the motorcycle and connect it to an electrical outlet. Battery life depends on mileage, with autonomies of up to 100 km.
In another store in Bilbalogo, a variety of models of electric motorcycles for children and adults are on display, including motorcycles with several seats. Prices vary from 275,000 to 750,000 FCFA depending on quality.
According to the store owner, Issouf Tambaté, the battery discharges according to the distance traveled, not according to the days. For example, a morning charge can cover about 70 km before charging. The battery charge time is 5-7 hours, and most of these motorcycles are imported from China.
