Burkina Faso: Electricity supply, major advances at the BOBO 2 thermal power plant
As part of preparations for managing the 2025 energy peak, the Minister of Energy, Mines, and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré GOUBA, accompanied by several of his colleagues, conducted a strategic visit to the electrical facilities of the BOBO 2 thermal power plant on January 24, 2025.
The purpose of this visit was to assess the ongoing maintenance work and ensure the plant’s production capacity to effectively meet the growing electricity demand during the peak period. It highlights the continuous commitment of the Burkinabe authorities to ensure a stable and secure energy supply for the population.
With an installed capacity of 68 MW, the BOBO 2 thermal power plant plays a crucial role in the national energy system. The work completed and ongoing will mobilize 55 MW to strengthen the interconnected national grid, a significant step in addressing energy deficits.
At the end of his visit, Minister Yacouba Zabré GOUBA expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the work and congratulated all those involved in the management and maintenance of the plant. He encouraged them to intensify efforts to tackle the challenges related to energy supply and ensure optimal coverage for the entire country.
This initiative is part of a broader policy of modernizing and strengthening energy infrastructure in Burkina Faso, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to meeting the growing needs of the population and supporting the country’s socio-economic development.
